Background: Smoking is a habit that can give pleasure to the smoker, but on the other hand can cause negative effects for the smokers themselves and those around them. Global Adults Tobacco Survey (2011), Indonesia ranks fourth highest number of smokers in the world with a percentage of 69.7%. Kulon Progo Regency ranks fourth highest number of smokers in the province of Yogyakarta istimewah.
Objective: To determine the role of peer relationship with smoking behavior in
adolescents SMA Negeri I Kalibawang Kulon Progo, Yogyakarta.
Methods: The study was a quantitative approach and a correlation study using
cross sectional design. The study population of 79 students with a sample of 35
students were taken by purposive sampling method. Research instrument was a
questionnaire that had been tested for validity and reliability. Methods of
data analysis using chi square Correlation technique.
Results: The results of chi square test on the samples showed that the P value
0.884 (p> 0.05), which means there
is no relationship between the role of peers in smoking behavior in
adolescents. These results indicate that there is no relationship between the
role of peers in smoking behavior in adolescents
Conclusion: peers can not influence teenagers to smoke.
